Deciding Who Takes the Pot in Free Online Poker

In free online poker, players must survive through the betting rounds with the best 5-card poker hand to take home the pot. There are ten different hands possible, ranked in order from most valuable to least valuable: Royal Flush, Straight Flush, Four of a Kind, Full House, Flush, Straight, Three of a Kind, Two Pair, Pair, and High Card.

At the end of a free poker game, the player who has a 5-card hand listed higher in the hand hierarchy than another player will win the hand. If, for example, the two remaining players at the end of a free online poker game have a Flush and Two Pair, the player with the Flush will take the pot over the player with Two Pair. The Flush is listed higher on the hand hierarchy than Two Pair, thus sealing the win for that player.

If two players have the same 5-card hand at the end of a free online poker game, one of several things may occur. The first deciding factor in who will take the pot is which player has the highest card in the hand. If, for example, two players end up with a Straight, the player with the starting card Q-J-10-9-8 will take home the pot over the player with the starting card 7-6-5-4-3.

If both players have a pair of eights (8-8), the player with the highest non-combination card in his hand will win the free online poker game (e.g. the player with 8-8-K-5-3 will win over 8-8-Q-4-2).
